Encouraging Innovation: Partnership with Praxair Technologies on Herron-Riverside Campus
Herron-Riverside High School Partners with Praxair Surface Technologies
September 27, 2022
Herron-Riverside High School is excited to announce a partnership with Praxair Surface Technologies launching in October 2022. With local headquarters less than five miles from Herron-Riverside, Praxair Surface Technologies (PST), a Linde company, is a world leader in surface enhancement and related technologies for aviation, energy and other industries.
Through this partnership, Herron-Riverside High School, one of the two high-performing, college preparatory, public high schools in the Herron Classical Schools network, is now home to the Linde Design and Automation Lab, a creative space housing innovative technology and lab equipment. The Linde Design and Automation Lab at Herron-Riverside High School will focus at the onset on a solution flow characterization project utilizing 3D printing, visual recognition, and robotics with possibilities for future development to come.
The Linde Design and Automation Lab will support and expand the robust science department programming already offered at Herron-Riverside. STEM coursework at Herron-Riverside includes access to our unique Physics-first sequence; advanced courses including AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science, and Dual Credit Biology; and technology electives like Principles of Engineering, Introduction to Computer Science, and AP Computer Science. Herron-Riverside also has an active robotics club that boasts two teams and a new practice field/build space located directly across the hall from the Linde Design and Automation Lab.
This unique partnership is in part the result of Senior Internship, a long-standing Herron Classical Schools program which successfully places over 60 Herron and Herron-Riverside High School 12th grade students as interns at local companies and nonprofit organizations each year. Through the placement of two interns working with Praxair Research and Development, the idea of the Linde Design and Automation Lab at HRHS was born. “I’m pleased to support organizations such as Herron-Riverside High School in the advancement of STEM coursework. These skills are important for students at all levels to enable career growth, and PST is happy to contribute to communities where our employees live and work,” said Derek Hileman, VP of Technology & Innovation at PST.
Herron Classical Schools is also a recipient of the 3E Grant from the Indiana Department of Education in 2022 to support the development of coursework and graduation pathways in the engineering and computer science fields.
