Herron-Riverside Students Score Top on SAT Statewide

The State released SAT results last week and our Herron-Riverside High School students came out on top! Our English Learner students, specifically, ranked number two statewide in Math on the SAT, and our Special Education students at both Herron High School and Herron-Riverside are in the top three of all Marion County public schools in Reading and Writing. Founded in 2017 to alleviate the long waiting lists at Herron High School, Herron-Riverside High School has quickly risen to the top as one of the best college preparatory schools in Indianapolis, and the SAT data proves that our scholars are some of the best in the state. 

Herron-Riverside’s Head of School Mr. Emanuel Harper said, “One of our core values is that we believe EVERY student is a scholar. I couldn't be prouder that our SAT results reflect this value, specifically for our exceptional learners and our English Language Learners. It is a tribute to the hard work our teachers, Special Education staff, and English Language Learner staff does each day to ensure student success.” 

These SAT scores indicate college and career readiness by showing not only how students perform on a test in a general sense, but also how they think through problems meaningfully and recall knowledge they’ve been building upon since the start of high school. While an SAT score might be a number on a page to some, we know that the numbers reflect our scholars’ preparation for post-high school success.

In addition to Herron-Riverside’s SAT success, Black students at Herron High School ranked number one among all Marion County public schools for Reading and Writing (number three statewide, with only two private schools scoring ahead of them). 

The continued success of scholars at our Herron-Riverside campus reflects the excellent quality of education our scholars receive. Beyond that, we know that every SAT score has a face, and every face has a story. Jayden is attending Purdue University to study biomedical engineering. Deanna is an Evans Scholar pursuing a psychology degree to become a counselor.  Jy’Ear is working towards a social work degree, and Zeniya will become a nurse. At Herron-Riverside High School we strive every day to help our scholars reach their fullest potential and graduate from Herron-Riverside as the next world-changers.
